To the Editor:
Dear Heather and the Families of Wilton,
As Create Learning Center approaches a new chapter, I want to take a moment to thank you — and the entire town — for 11 unforgettable years of support, resilience, and community.
It’s hard to believe that more than a decade has passed since Create was born. After our preschool program was unexpectedly removed from the Comstock Community Center, many in town remember the chaos and frustration of that moment. I was devastated. But then something magical happened: the parents, families, and local leaders rallied — not just for me, but for us. They helped me find this beautiful space, and Create began.
Heather, your work and GOOD Morning Wilton have always been kind, clear and supportive throughout this time. Your work stems from integrity and warmth and community. I will always be grateful I am able to be a part of this great community.
Over the years, Create has grown into a joyful, nurturing environment for children, families and educators alike. Over the last two years, especially, my team — the incredible women who are Create — have carried this school with extraordinary grace. When I broke my leg, they took care of me, the school and even my dog, Sam. And as I’ve spent this past year caring for my dad, who has vascular dementia, they have continued to show up every single day with love, intention and strength.
It’s because of their devotion that I’ve made a decision: it’s time to help my staff grow in ways I can’t offer alone. I’ve partnered with a remarkable, family-oriented company out of Massachusetts called Magical Beginnings. They are expanding into Connecticut and will be taking over Create as their flagship school. I’ll be working with them to open more schools across the state, while continuing to support our program as an educational consultant.
They share our values in education, family and community. They care deeply for their teachers. They offer career advancement, educational support and benefits I simply couldn’t provide as a single owner of one little school. Best of all, they are keeping everything we’ve built exactly as it is. Our team stays the same. Sara Borniger remains as director. Our play-based philosophy, loving culture and unique spirit remain untouched — only stronger, with more support behind the scenes.
The only visible change for families will be the name of the school, which will eventually align with the Magical Beginnings brand.
To the families and the town that stood by me from the very beginning: thank you! Thank you for believing in Create before it even had a home. Thank you for 11 years of laughter, learning and love. And thank you, Heather, for always choosing to highlight the good and tell stories that bring our community closer.
I’m not saying goodbye — just stepping back a bit to spend more time with my dad and help grow this vision of early childhood education in new and different ways. The heart of Create will continue to beat strong in this building, in this town, and in the work we’ll keep doing together.
With endless gratitude,
Sharon Cowley
