Allen’s Meadow Volunteers — Help Maintain a Native Pollinator Meadow

Behind the Community Gardens at Allen’s Meadow is a newly-created native pollinator meadow including over 40 species of native wildflowers and four species of native grasses. It was previously a monoculture of an invasive weed called Mugwort. During this first year of meadow growth, it is critical to remove as many Mugwort seedlings as possible to prevent them from taking hold before the native meadow seedlings have a chance to get established. (See this GMW article for more info.)
We’ve held three successful volunteer days this summer and will hold the next one on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 9-11 a.m. Please consider volunteering an hour or two of your time to help ensure this native meadow has a chance to survive and thrive in our treasured town park. Many hands make light work!
Please park at the Field 6 sign and walk over to the meadow on the back side of the Community Gardens.
