Music on the Hill: Sounds of the Season

Join Music on the Hill for their gorgeous holiday concert, “Sounds of the Season.” Featured this year will be the Jubilate Ringers, the Festival Chorus, and our new Community Children’s Chorus. David H. Connell and Ellen Dickinson conduct. Our program of festive music includes choral works by contemporary Scandinavian composers Kim André Arnesen and Morten Lauridsen, as well as “The Heavens Delight” by New Canaan composer Gwyneth Walker. Other selections include gorgeous seasonal pieces such as “Cantate Domino” (Hassler), “Jesus Christ the Apple Tree” (Poston), “What Sweeter Music Can We Bring?” (Berger) and the French traditional carol “Masters in This Hall.”
The bell ringers will perform a hauntingly beautiful arrangement of the plainchant melody Divinium mysterium (“Of the Father’s Love Begotten”), and will accompany both children’s and adult choruses for more familiar carols, including a medley arranged by Dickinson.
We will all sing favorite carols with the majestic St. Matthew’s organ as accompaniment. Let’s all get into the season! $20 donations are accepted but not required. For more on Music on the Hill, see the Music on the Hill website.
