Music on the Hill Summer Chorus Concert Celebrates America with “Frostiana”

The Music on the Hill Summer Chorus celebrates America in this concert featuring Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana” and other American music led by guest conductor Kaitlin Lazere.
“Frostiana: Seven Country Songs” is Thompson’s setting of Robert Frost poetry, including “The Road Not Taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” The piece was commissioned by the town of Amherst, Massachusettes for its bicentennial in 1959.
The program also includes Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of Living,” from his Opera The Tender Land, and works by Barber, Bernstein, and contemporary American composer Morten Lauridsen.
The concert is free, a gift to the community, with donations gratefully accepted.
This is the 16th annual Summer Chorus. It draws singers from across the region each July to rehearse and perform a major work from the classical choral repertoire. It is one of Music on the Hill’s four performing ensembles, along with the Festival Chorus, Chamber Chorus, and the Jubilate Ringers handbell choir. All are led by artistic directors David H. Connell and Ellen Dickinson.
