Special Civil Rights Shabbat

Friday evening promises to be an exceptionally moving Shabbat experience at Temple B’nai Chaim. On January 12 at 7:30 p.m. we will honor the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a modern day prophet who called on the shared history of oppression of Jews and African Americans as they sought a promised land. We share both a history of oppression and a responsibility to speak truth to power. Dr. King taught us all to pray with our feet as well as our mouths.
This will be an Interfaith service as Cantor Dunkerley welcomes the Rev. Caroline Ainsworth-Hughes of the Wilton Congregational Church to join her on the Bimah. Bonnie Heft who coordinates TBC’s Social Action Group to Fight Antisemitism and Hate has sponsored the music. Members of The Ridgefield Chorale will sing both Jewish melodies as well as the music they performed recently at the Kennedy Center honoring the 60th Anniversary of Dr. King’s I Have A Dream speech. This promises to be an evening you will definitely want to be a part of!
