WLA/WHS Scholarly Series: Jazzed Up–The History of Jazz in America–Brenda Earle Stokes

September 23, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free

This is the final installment of the Wilton Library/Wilton Historical Society scholarly series, “Jazzed Up: The History of Jazz in America,” that was put on hold in April due to the pandemic. In a virtual program on Zoom, vocalist, pianist and composer Brenda Earle Stokes shares the rich history of women in jazz, focusing on the many contributions of the often-overlooked female instrumentalists and composers. The series is sponsored by Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. The media sponsor is the Wilton Bulletin. The moderator is Steve Hudspeth.

Brenda Earle Stokes is a rare jazz artist with a true command of both the piano and the voice. And she is also noted as a composer. Brenda is active as an educator, serving on the faculty of Fordham University, running a busy private studio in New York City, and working as a guest clinician, adjudicator, and speaker. Please see the library’s registration link for more details on the program and the speaker. Online registration is required in order to receive the invitation link to the Zoom or YouTube live stream, both of which are being used to accommodate the full sign-up list. Visit the library website to register.
