GOOD To Celebrate: Wilton Coalition for Youth Names Tommy McCarthy a Community Champion for March

Woodcock Nature Center educator Tommy McCarthy has been named the Wilton Coalition for Youth’s March 2026 Community Champion. As part of the #WiltonIsWhereYouBelong campaign, the Coalition spotlights one individual each month for their positive influence, work or commitment to the Wilton community.
At Woodcock, McCarthy plays an impactful role in the Wilton community for his students, other community organizations and the natural environment. He leads multiple community programs and afterschool and youth activities, and he serves as the director of Uncharted, [Woodcock’s] summer program for students in grades 6–8. According to the award announcement, “his real impact is in the passion he brings to his work and how it helps Wiltonians foster a lasting connection to the natural world and a sense of belonging through shared outdoor experiences.
“It can be tough growing up today, and there are a lot of outlets for kids that may not be great for mental health, like social media or excessive use of the internet. I hope that the kids I get to teach will learn that nature is a place that is always there for them to self-reflect, destress and find things to appreciate about life and the planet we live on,” McCarthy said.
Wilton Coalition for Youth is a collection of Wilton organizations, town departments and individuals who serve youth and families in Wilton. Spearheaded by the Wilton Youth Council, Coalition members coordinate efforts to prevent substance misuse and promote the mental health and emotional well-being of youth and families.
Nominate a Community Champion online; Coalition members select one Community Champion each month to be announced in GOOD Morning Wilton.
