GOOD Show: Tickets On Sale Now for Wilton Children’s Theater Spring Show “Guys and Dolls Jr.”

The bustling, colorful streets of 1950s New York City are coming to Middlebrook School as the Wilton Children’s Theater presents its spring production of the classic musical comedy Guys and Dolls Jr. It’s musical comedy at its finest, telling the story of gambler Nathan Detroit putting together a big game with the authorities breathing down his neck, while his girlfriend, the nightclub performer Adelaide, tries to get him down the aisle after a 14-year engagement. Enter fellow gambler Sky Masterson, who’s chasing the strait-laced missionary Sarah Brown. Guys and Dolls Jr. is a fun musical romp from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, and Wilton audiences can get tickets now to go along for the ride — and cheer on the cast of 44 talented 4th through 8th graders. Tickets are available online for performances on Mar. 13, 14 and 15.

GOOD Jazz: Wilton High School to Host 49th Annual John Rhodes Jazz Symposium

The region’s top youth and professional jazz musicians will perform at Wilton High School‘s 49th Annual John Rhodes Jazz Symposium on Friday, Mar. 6, a unique forum showcasing high school jazz ensembles and topped off with a performance by the Berkshire Jazz Orchestra.
The evening is an opportunity for the public to enjoy great live jazz performed at no cost. Audiences will hear a wide range of repertoires, from traditional big band swing to contemporary jazz, including Latin styles and ballads.
WHS Jazz II ensemble will take the stage at 4 p.m., followed every half hour by jazz bands from other Fairfield County high schools, including Westhill, Weston, John F. Kennedy, Newtown, Greenwich, Darien and Staples. Wilton’s Jazz I ensemble will close the student portion of the event.
Musician and longtime Wilton resident Arthur Lipner will provide professional feedback to each participating student jazz ensemble. At 8:30 p.m. WHS Band Director Troy Williams will welcome the Berkshire Jazz Orchestra, comprised of active performers and educators from around Fairfield County.
With more than 150 students and professional musicians sharing their talents, the symposium honors John Rhodes, a former Wilton music educator who created the Jazz Symposium in 1976 and dedicated more than 50 years to music education, including 42 years in Wilton. The symposium was named in his honor in recognition of Rhodes’ lasting contributions to music education.
