Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church will be open for a Juneteenth celebration, hosted by the Apostolate of Black Catholics on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m. The Wilton community is invited to attend.
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States following the end of the Civil War and the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. It is a national holiday in the U.S.
The program will feature guest speaker Dr. Julie Hughes, an archivist and historian who is the Wilton Library History Room archivist. In addition, the evening will include gospel music, refreshments, and a commentary for hope by Our Lady of Fatima Pastor Fr. Reggie Norman. Norman is the president of the National Association of Black Catholic Administrators.
Our Lady of Fatima Church is located at 229 Danbury Rd.
