It’s time for Wilton to get ready for Minks to Sinks. This year, there’s an even bigger reason to be part of it all.

The largest outdoor tag sale in Connecticut just got larger. This year, when the Minks to Sinks Spring Sale opens Saturday, May 7, shoppers will find over 14,000 square feet of new and gently used merchandise under the tents—more shopping space than ever before.

“We’ve rented even larger tents this year and reconfigured their layout to accommodate more merchandise and protect it in the event of inclement weather,” explains Ada Mayer, the 2016 Minks to Sinks chairman.

For over 84 years, Minks to Sinks has given people a place to recycle items they have never used or no longer need by consigning or donating them for the sale. It also provides hundreds of shoppers—some who come every year from as far away as Massachusetts—with bargains on new and gently used household items, furniture, luggage, garden tools, kids toys, sports equipment, seasonal clothing and of course, minks and sinks.

Preparations for the Spring Sale started weeks in advance, even before the tents went up on Thursday, April 28. Over 200 Minks to Sinks volunteers will be on hand throughout the coming week to take in, price, organize and display all the donated and consigned items that come in. It is a daunting task, but every year, they come through and do what it takes to be ready to open for business on Saturday. Many of these volunteers have worked at Minks to Sinks sales for years, often through heat waves, drenching downpours, high winds, and the occasional early snowstorm.

“This year the Spring sale falls on the weekend of Mother’s Day, but that will not deter these women from putting in the time required to make the sale a success. The volunteers are some of the most outstanding people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with,” says Mayer. “Their dedication, willingness to roll up their sleeves, and put in the time to ensure the sale goes well, is inspiring. They could be home with their families, but instead they choose to spend the days before and during the sale doing what they can to make it a success. They do this because they know that Minks to Sinks raises funds for Family & Children’s Agency (FCA),” the Norwalk-based non-profit agency provides much-needed social services to individuals and families in need in the surrounding communities.
