The Riverbrook Regional YMCA/Wilton Branch will begin offering Special Olympics Bocce and Special Olympics Croquet programs starting this weekend. Practice for both programs will be on Sundays, beginning on Sunday, July 28. Bocce practice will run 10-11 a.m. and croquet practice will run 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The session runs for six weeks, and the program fees are $40 for members and $50 for non-members.
Certified coaches will lead all practices to teach the rules and ensure everyone has fun and is ready to compete for medals.
The Y’s special needs programs are designed to foster good health, confidence, social skills, and independence in every participant. Parent Jean-Claude Oligario’s offered a testimonial that captures the positive impact the programs and the Y’s Special Needs Coordinator Eric Lindahl have on children who participate, including Oligario’s son, Luke.
“The Y’s special needs programs have been great for my son. He has thrived in the inclusive environment, gaining confidence and social skills. Eric’s dedication and positive energy make a huge difference — he creates a space where every child feels valued and supported,” Oligario said.
Lindahl said the special needs programs are a key part of the YMCA’s mission in Wilton. “Together, at the Riverbrook Regional Y we will continue to champion individuals with special needs and promote a community driven by support and inclusion,” Lindahl said.
