GOOD Reads: GMW Shares Joy of Reading with Cider Mill 3rd Graders at Read Aloud Day [Photo]

To commemorate National Read Aloud Day, the Wilton Education Foundation once again sponsored its own Wilton Read Aloud Day, recruiting community volunteers to visit classrooms at Miller-Driscoll and Cider Mill Elementary Schools and read books to the students.
GOOD Morning Wilton Editor Heather Borden Herve was one of the participants, reading this year’s third grade book choice, A Quiet Place by Douglas Wood, to Ms. Geluso’s class. The students flexed their creative listening skills and had very thoughtful things to share about their own quiet places where they recharge, relax and let their imaginations fly. Each reader was able to leave a copy of the book as a gift to each classroom.

GOOD Science: Help Count Frogs for Science with Woodcock Nature Center

Woodcock Nature Center needs community members to take part in a national citizen science initiative called FrogWatch USA, to help monitor and protect local frog and toad populations.
FrogWatch USA is a nationwide network of chapters, individuals, families and nature lovers that explore wetlands in their communities, learn to identify amphibian calls, and contribute valuable data to a scientific database used by researchers studying wetland health and amphibian populations.
No prior scientific experience is needed, just a curiosity and dedication to learning about local amphibians. Woodcock is hosting FrogWatch USA volunteer training sessions for all experience levels to teach participants how to identify frogs and toads by their unique calls, select monitoring sites and record observations.
- Saturday, February 28 – 1-2:30 p.m. at Woodcock Nature Center
- Tuesday, March 3 – 6:30-8:00 p.m. online via Zoom
For more details or to register for trainings, visit the Woodcock Nature Center website or email educator Tommy McCarthy.
