As part of its observance of April as Disability Awareness Month, Wilton High School will be hosting an exciting Celebration of Neurodiversity at a musical performance to take place at the Zellner Gallery at the Clune Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 8.
Organizers said that, building from the idea that “music is the universal language,” this Celebration of Neurodiversity is an opportunity to connect individuals from all walks of life through music, self-expression and shared creativity in an open, welcoming environment.
Presented in collaboration with Wilton Community Steps Program, Wilton SEPTA and Wilton High School, this first annual Celebration of Neurodiversity is open to the public from the Wilton community and beyond. The event will feature a concert by Especially Everyone Ensemble and will highlight some local musical talent as well. In addition, the casual setting will allow an opportunity for local mission-aligned organizations to present about their offerings.
Especially Everyone is a Greenwich-based nonprofit whose goal is to build a more inclusive world through music, and works to build lasting community connections for all individuals. As the name suggests, the event is targeted at, well, everyone — neurodivergent individuals, individuals with disabilities, neurotypical peers, families, friends and neighbors. The gathering will capitalize on meaningful human interaction with the intention of allowing attendees to come together in celebration and belonging.
The event is open to the wider Fairfield County area, along with all supporters of music, creativity, education and community, to join for a memorable night.
“This event represents our commitment to inclusivity for everyone in our not just our schools, but in our broader community,” Wilton Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Melissa Barrett said. “Coming together for an evening of fun with singing and dancing, connecting with others, and celebrating what makes each individual special is sure to increase a feeling of belonging and interdependence.”
