Wilton Land Trust has named Whitney Beaman to be its new executive director. In a press release announcing her hiring, the Trust said that Beaman’s “commitment to and experience in open space conservation, stewardship, education and community engagement will help pave the way to preserve, protect, and celebrate Wilton’s remarkable landscapes and unique natural character for generations to come.”
“We are very excited to have Whitney join us,” Wilton Land Trust President Craig Johnson said. “She has a wealth of educational and managerial experience that we need to grow our organization and to foster our mission of open space preservation, sustainable stewardship and community engagement.”
“I am deeply honored to be joining this organization at such an exciting time,” Beaman said. “As I step into this role, I am inspired by its potential to deepen our connection to the land, foster a sense of stewardship, and create learning opportunities that ignite a lifelong love of nature. Especially for our youth — the next generation of environmental scientists and land stewards — these landscapes are living classrooms, filled with lessons in ecology, resilience, and interconnectedness.”
With nearly a decade of leadership experience, Beaman has championed ecological education and sustainability initiatives at nonprofits dedicated to organic agriculture and nature-based landscaping. She holds a Master’s of science in sustainability management from Columbia University, a Bachelor of science with Research Honors in food science and viticulture and enology from Cornell University, and certificates in medicinal plants, soil health and leadership fundamentals from Cornell.
Visitors are invited to drop by the office in the Offutt Barn at “Chestnut Meadows” (183 Ridgefield Rd.) to meet Beaman, wander the unique upland meadow, visit the American Chestnut Tree orchard, and learn about all the upcoming WLT programs and events.
