To the Editor:
Sewa Diwali is all about fostering togetherness and Sewa (selfless giving) for the welfare of society, by promoting the festive and enlightening spirit of Diwali.
Awesome and impressive work by these Wilton Middlebrook students — Siddharth Agrawal, Tanush Reddy, Riya Pendse, Aariv Mulki and Sejal Gupta, who didn’t give up in the 40 degrees on Sunday, Oct. 27 outside Wilton Stop & Shop. They spoke and educated so many on what Sewa Diwali is and collected donations given to them generously.
These kids received enormous kind compliments and blessings from [the] elderly that wholeheartedly applauded them. There were many who excitedly said, “Oh I know what Diwali is,” and there were few who asked about it. One grandma came and donated saying that she wants her grandkids to do something like this.
The learning behind helping the community is far more than any other value. Heartfelt thanks to all who donated to the Sewa Diwali and also to those who even thought about it. This bunch of 7th-grade kids went home happy. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to the generosity of the Wilton town people, many known, few unknown and all came forward to donate.
These kids accumulated two carloads of non-perishable food items [and] over $1,000 in cash/Venmo/Zelle that will be donated to the local Connecticut Food Pantries (Home of the Braves/Rescue Mission). On another occasion, a few weeks back, the Indian community also donated $1,000 to Rise Against Hunger.
None of this success would be possible without the generous donors. Thank you again to all the Wilton people for their support and kindness.
Happy Diwali!
Amit Agrawal
