On Tuesday, May 20, the Wilton Police Department held its annual Awards Ceremony, recognizing exceptional officers for their dedication, bravery and outstanding service to the community.

The event, held at the Wilton Library, “brought together city leaders, department personnel and community members to honor those who have gone above and beyond in the line of duty,” Police Information Officer Lt. Anna Tornello said in a press release about the award ceremony.

Deputy Chief Robert Cipolla opened the ceremony and introduced First Selectman Toni Boucher and Police Commission Chair Chris Giovino and Commissioner Adrienne Reedy, who offered their remarks in praise of the officers.

Police Chief Thomas Conlan highlighted the officers’ actions before each officer received the proper recognition. Several officers were awarded letters of recognition, letters of commendation, meritorious service awards and life-saving awards for their individual acts of dedication to serving the community.

Ofc. Melissa LaPak received the Community Police Officer of the Year Award. She is a member of the Domestic Violence Task Force and has participated in education efforts aimed at teen driver safety, along with other initiatives.

Ofc. Elizabeth Myles was named the Police Officer of the Year. According to the WPD, Myles has shown dedication, patience and great attention to detail, which allowed her to successfully investigate many cases and gained her the praise of prosecutors and court staff for the quality of her work.

Additionally, former Wilton resident and longtime CERT member Thomas Gunther received the Civilian Blue Angel Award for his commitment to the Town of Wilton demonstrated through the many hours he dedicated to serving the community.

The Awards Ceremony stands as “a testament to the courage and dedication of the Wilton Police Officers and their essential role in building trust and maintain[ing] safety in our community,” Tornello wrote in the release.
