Wilton resident Vikram Bhandari, 51, passed away on Jan. 4, 2026 after battling a year-long illness at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
We remember Vikram, a dear friend, a passionate Hindu and a dedicated volunteer, whose life was deeply rooted in values, discipline and selfless service to society. He was also a steering committee member of Wi-ACT (Wilton Interfaith for Action).
Vikram had a unique way of bringing joy to those around him — always doing something that made us laugh — while never losing sight of his larger purpose: serving the society. He was instrumental in starting the first Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh chapter in Connecticut, laying a strong foundation for future generations. We witnessed him tirelessly initiating and nurturing several grassroots efforts across Connecticut, including Ekal, Hindi USA and many other initiatives, always eager to do more.
He lived with unwavering conviction and quiet strength. Even during the challenges of COVID, he faced adversity with courage and continued to perform his dharma, delivering PPE kits to first responders. His unparalleled commitment to Sewa was once again evident in this year’s SewaDiwali, through which Connecticut alone raised and donated 120,000 pounds of food to local food pantries.
His actions reflected a deep sense of responsibility, purpose and selflessness. To those who knew him closely, Vikram was not only a friend but someone you could always rely on for any help.
His departure is not merely the loss of an individual, but the silencing of a life devoted to ideals, service and the betterment of community. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire us.
May his noble soul attain sadgati (passage), and may we all who knew him find the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
Om Shanti.
