The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Weather Advisory for Wilton, in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Feb. 12, to 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 13. The advisory is in effect for portions of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York.

Mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

Snow is expected to begin early Wednesday evening, and will likely mix with sleet by midnight, when it will mix with and change over to freezing rain after midnight. Temperatures are then expected to climb above freezing by mid-morning Thursday with rain ending later in the day.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Motorists should slow down and use caution while traveling, and check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions.

Officials encourage people going outside to watch the first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing the risk of a fall and injury.
