The Wilton branch of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA competed in the CT State Gymnastics Championship over the weekend of Mar. 22-23, hosted by the Westport/Weston YMCA. Six teams from across Connecticut competed against the Wilton YMCA gymnasts, including Darien YMCA, Glastonbury YMCA, Lakewood/Trumbull/Meriden/New Britain/Berlin YMCA, Rye YMCA and Westport/Weston YMCA.
Wilton’s graduating seniors, Teagan Stengrim and Cailyn Cruickshank, were recognized during the meet.
For Stengrim, a 12-year member of the Wilton YMCA Gymnastics team, it was her final States Championship. “It was really special after competing for this team my whole life and being around such supportive teammates and coaches,” she said.
Overall, Wilton YMCA won three individual championship titles and 39 event titles: Level 2 placed first, Xcel Gold placed second, Levels 3 and 4 placed third, while Level 6 placed fourth.
The following are placement results from Wilton gymnasts participating in Levels 2-7 and Xcel Gold:
Level 2
Callie Bartlett (Child) won gold for beam and bars, bronze on vault and second all around. Evie Afentoulides (Child) received gold for floor and third all around. Dylan Zach (Child) placed fourth on vault, beam and all around. Kate Osiecki (Child) received gold on vault. Avery Yurchack (Junior A) received gold on bars, silver on vault and beam, placed fifth on floor, and first all around. Taylor Schellhorn (Junior A) placed fourth on beam. Ava Matthews (Junior A) had a strong performance. Madison Cooney (Junior B) received gold on vault, placed fourth on beam, and fifth all around. Beatrice Poireir (Junior B) placed fifth on vault. Tessa Reichnbach (Senior) received gold on floor, bronze on bars, placed fifth on vault and second all around.
Level 3
Fallon Sommer (Child A) received gold on beam, vault and floor, and first all around. Blake Bartlett (Child A) received gold for bars, silver for floor and beam, and second all around. Elyse Wohlberg (Child A) received bronze on bars and floor, and third all around. Ava Valletta (Child A) received silver on vault. Paige Fankhauser (Child A) received bronze on bars and placed fourth on vault. Maggie de Lacy (Child A) placed fifth on vault. Rose McLaughlin (Child A) placed fifth on beam. Lucy Scarozza (Child A) and Melody Capalbo (Child A) both showed strong performances across all four events. Lindsey Haims (Child B) received silver on vault. Tegan Levenherz (Child B) and Ella Goodman (Junior B) had strong performances on all four events. Camilla Alves (Senior A) placed fourth on beam. Katelyn Ramirez (Senior A) had strong performances across all events.
Level 4
Sophia Howell (Child) received gold on bars and floor, placed fifth on vault and second all around. Adel Yerenkova (Child) received bronze on bars and floor, placed fourth on beam and fourth all around. Caitlyn O’Connor (Child) received gold on vault, fifth on beam and fifth all around. Blake Reinking (Child) placed fourth on floor and fifth on bars. Caroline Osiecki (Child) had strong performances across all four events. Greysen Grismondi (Junior) received bronze on bars, and placed fifth on beam and fourth all around. Meghan Collias (Junior) received silver on vault.
Xcel Gold
Abigail Schmidt (Child) received gold on bars and bronze on vault, and placed fourth on floor and third all around. Eliana Reiter (Child) received gold on beam. Gabriella Gismondi (Child) placed fifth on bars. Kaya Baumgold (Junior) received gold on vault and beam, and placed fifth on bars and first all around. Madigan O’Shea (Junior) received bronze on floor and placed fifth on vault and beam. Lila Harrington (Junior B) had strong performances across all four events.
Level 6
Emery Amero (Junior) placed fifth on bars. Addison Grippando (Senior) received bronze on bars, fifth on beam and fifth all around. Nora Walencikowski (Senior) had strong performances across all four events.
Level 7
Allison Massaua (Junior) placed third on vault, fourth on bars and fourth all around. Abby Deane (Junior) placed third on beam and fourth on floor. Teagan Stengrim (Senior) placed fourth on vault, bars, beam and floor as well as fourth all around. Cailyn Cruickshank (Senior) received bronze on beam, and placed fifth on vault, bars and floor as well as fifth all around.
Next up for Wilton YMCA gymnasts is hosting the Spring Sparkle at the Riverbrook Regional YMCA on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 5-6, followed by the YMCA New England Regional Gymnastics Championship in Portsmouth, RI from May 10-11, followed by the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship in Green Bay, WI from June 24-29.
