The Wilton Family YMCA has long been a pillar of community strength, wellness and connection. One of its most inspiring and impactful efforts in recent years has been its commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by cystic fibrosis (CF) — a cause that hits close to home for the Wilton Y family.
A Personal Story Inspires a Community

Aaron Britton has been with the Wilton Family YMCA since 1998. He was the former Gordyland Camp Director and Afterschool Director but was forced to step away from his role several years ago due to complications from cystic fibrosis. His absence was deeply felt by both staff and families who had come to know his dedication, warmth and leadership.
But in a powerful turn of events, after a long and courageous — and successful — battle with the disease following a lung transplant, Britton returned to the Y. He was welcomed back with open arms by a community that never stopped rooting for him and now serves as the Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s Director of Human Resources.
What’s more, Britton’s journey not only brought awareness to CF but also inspired action in that very community.
Raising Nearly $100,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
In Britton’s honor and that of countless others affected by CF, the Wilton Y has raised close to $100,000 over the past few years to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Through community-driven events such as kickball tournaments, walk-a-thons and staff-led fundraisers, the Y has applied its mission of service into tangible impact.
“Our goal has always been to give back in meaningful ways,” Early Childhood & School Age Development Director Kimberly Fejes said. Fejes was inspired to run the New York City Marathon this fall to raise awareness and funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “Aaron’s story gave us a real reason to rally together — not just to support one of our own, but to help advance research and resources that could change lives.”
Britton continues to play a key role in fundraising for cystic fibrosis campaigns, bringing passion and purpose to this cause. His resilience has become a symbol of hope and strength throughout the organization.
Connecticut’s Finest Honorees
As part of its ongoing involvement, several members of the Wilton Y community have been honored by the Connecticut’s Finest initiative, which recognizes leaders making a difference in the fight against CF:
- 2019 — Aaron Britton
- 2020 — Mike Kazlauskas
- 2021 — Kimberly Fejes
- 2022 — Madison Turner
- 2023 — Shana Russnok
- 2024 — Rhoda Kasparek
These individuals have not only supported the cause but have led by example, helping to spread awareness and rally support across Connecticut.
Beyond CF: A Broader Commitment to Inclusion and Support
While cystic fibrosis has become a major focus, Wilton Y’s mission to give back extends even further. The Y provides financial assistance to families in need and helps children have access to camp, programs, and wellness activities regardless of income. Its goal: to build a more inclusive, supportive environment where everyone belongs.
“Our doors are open to all,” Y Membership Experience Director Molly Blosser said. “Whether it’s helping families with financial aid or supporting those facing serious health challenges, we’re here to serve.”
The Wilton Y is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. With programs for all ages and a deep commitment to inclusivity, the Y remains a trusted community resource for support, connection, and lasting impact.
