Wilton Youth Council‘s “Community Champion” program, part of its town-wide Wilton Coalition for Youth‘s “Wilton is Where You Belong” campaign, highlights one individual each month who makes a positive difference in the Wilton community and sets a model for others to get connected in the same way. Candidates are nominated by community members by submitting a brief online nominating form; nominations are reviewed and selected monthly by Coalition members. The Coalition has partnered with GOOD Morning Wilton to announce each month’s Community Champion.
Congratulations to Tammy Thornton on being named the Wilton Coalition for Youth’s October 2025 Community Champion, as part of the #WiltonIsWhereYouBelong campaign. Community Champions are recognized for their positive influence, work or commitment to the community.
Thornton, current and long-time president of Wilton Go Green, was described in her nomination as “a tireless leader, organizer, educator and advocate for all things environmental in Wilton. She’s helped transform behaviors in our schools (Zero Waste, [reusable] trays, etc.) and spearhead community events (No Idling, Wilton Go Green Festival/Zero Waste Faire, recycling and repair days). She is the go-to authority who is always positive and full of suggestions. Wilton is so very lucky to have her.”
The Wilton Coalition for Youth is made up of a myriad of organizations, town departments and individuals who serve youth and families in Wilton. These organizations are working together to coordinate efforts aimed at preventing substance misuse and promoting the mental health and emotional well-being of youth and families. The effort is spearheaded by the Wilton Youth Council.
