This column is a regular contribution from Wilton Newcomers Club president Tara Thompson.
Over the years, the Wilton Newcomers Club has been a valued resource for our residents. Whether freshly arrived in town or experiencing a life change (i.e. new baby, joining/leaving the workforce, marriage or divorce) many in Wilton can credit some of their oldest friends to their WNC membership.
As for me, I joined the Club while I was still surrounded by half-packed cardboard boxes in Long Island. By the time I’d moved, I was already signed up for a morning coffee and a couples evening get-together. It’s been almost two years and I’m still in daily contact with several of the women I met those first few weeks. Being active in Newcomers, last year as VP of Membership and this year as President, has given me a solid base of friends and a comfortably full social calendar so that I never really felt like the “new girl in town.” Many others can say the same… and WNC had been at it for fifty years.
Yes, you heard me: 2015 is a big year for the Wilton Newcomers Club–we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary!
In typical Newcomers style, we have decided not to throw a party for only our current members, or even just our alumni. Nope–we’re inviting the whole town! And we’d like to give back to an organization that has also given back to just about everyone in our community, the Wilton Library.
On March 28 we will be hosting a Murder Mystery Night Cocktail Party at the Library’s “Secret Speakeasy” at eight o’clock. Mingle with mobsters and molls, all while trying to solve a crime. Details are still being firmed up–but there with be food, drinks, jazz… and murder!
This party is a perfect complement to the recent Wilton Reads community-wide reading program that drew inspiration from the book Ragtime, by E.L. Doctorow. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Wilton Library.
We’re looking for individuals and local businesses that would like to support our endeavor. Are you able to sponsor our event? Would you like to provide food or beverages? Or possibly an item to be raffled off for charity? We’d love to hear from you! Please email info@wiltonnewcomersclub.com.
And perhaps most importantly, buy your tickets now! They are available for purchase via brownpapertickets.com. For just $50, join us as we toast to another fifty years in Wilton with a glass of Prohibition Punch!!
