Wilton voters backed the winners in both primary races on local ballots Tuesday, Aug. 11, favoring incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont in the Democratic gubernatorial primary and Michael Ted Goldstein in the Republican primary for the 4th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the statewide Democratic primary results for Lamont at 8:19 p.m., just 19 minutes after polls closed.

As of 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, with 92% of votes counted statewide, Lamont had received 119,338 votes, or 67.7%, compared with 57,045 votes, or 32.3%, for challenger Josh Elliott.

Lamont performed even more strongly in Wilton, according to preliminary results released by the Wilton Registrar’s Office. He received 771 votes to Elliott’s 211, giving Lamont 78.5% of the votes cast in Wilton in the gubernatorial primary.

On the Republican side, Goldstein won the primary to determine who will challenge Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in November.

The Associated Press called the race for Goldstein at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday. Goldstein received 4,533 votes, or 74.3%, compared with Daniel Miressi’s 1,565 votes, or 25.7%.

Wilton Republicans also favored Goldstein by a wide margin. Preliminary local results showed 199 votes for Goldstein and 52 for Miressi, giving Goldstein 79.3% of the Wilton vote in that contest.
