Kids are front and center at Wilton Congregational Church in the coming months, with two events that, although quite different, speak volumes about how the church cares for children.
Diaper Drive
Throughout the month of May, Wilton Congregational Church will hold its annual Diaper Drive in support of Covenant to Care for Children, a Connecticut nonprofit that provides essential support to children and families in difficult circumstances.
The diaper drive, open to the public, is part of the church’s regular outreach through monthly service projects.
“We are committed to serving the greater community and opening our hearts to those in need,” Rev. Caroline Hughes, Wilton Congregational Church Senior Minister, said. “Diapers are a daily necessity, and we hope our results will ease some of the financial burden of young families facing stressful situations.”
Donations of diapers and wipes can be dropped off at the church office, located at 70 Ridgefield Road in Wilton. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday mornings. The drive runs through May 31.
Summer Camp — All God’s Critters
In June, Wilton Congregational Church will welcome kids right here in Wilton to jump, pounce and bound into summer at the church’s weeklong summer camp — All God’s Critters — an animal-themed week of fun, taking place on Tuesday-Friday, June 17-20 at Merwin Meadows.
Children ages 4 through 4th grade can participate as campers, while middle and high school students will join the fun as camp counselors.
The camp’s “critter” theme will celebrate animal tales of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, engaging kids through stories, games, music, art and science. Animal visitors and experts will participate with the children, and even the daily snack will have a creature theme.
“With camp taking place at Merwin Meadows, we will have the chance to see some of God’s creatures out in the wild as we learn about the animals that pop up in the Bible!” Rev. Hughes said.
To register a child for All God’s Critters camp, email Rev. Hughes by the registration deadline of Friday, May 23.
