Who might have thought that preschool teacher to fashion boutique owner would be a likely career track?

But that’s exactly the route Erica Malhotra, the owner of Wilton’s “B” CHIC, took 10 years ago. The store is known as a destination spot to find premium denim in the latest styles and cuts, and also offers of-the-moment fashion in tops, dresses, jewelry, accessories and more.

Malhotra is celebrating the store’s anniversary with a special sales event on Thursday, Aug. 25, offering 20-percent off of everything in the store plus free giveaways all day.

To help her mark the occasion, GOOD Morning Wilton asked Erica to complete our Business Q&A and also share some trends in fall fashion for the upcoming season. “B” sure to tell her you read about “B” CHIC in GMW!

Why did you get into this field?

I got into this field by having a love for fashion and wanting to help women feel good about themselves no matter what shape or size.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most is helping mothers and daughters find the perfect outfit while they share a bonding experience. And I love owning a business in Wilton! I have such great customers who support me every day, and without them I would not still be standing. Thank you to everyone who shops local and shops “B” Chic!

What sets your business apart from any other?

I specialize in premium denim. We carry over 30 different brands, various styles and hundreds of washes. We can fit any body type and our sizes range from 24-32. We have been voted Best “Jean” Boutique in Fairfield County for the last five years in a row, 2012-2016!

What would people be surprised to learn about you and your business?

On Aug. 25 I will celebrating 10 years in business. What people would be surprised to learn about me is that I was a former preschool teacher in Wilton and I also worked at a clothing store that was called Go Get Dressed. I took that business over, named it “B” CHIC, and decided to focus and specialize in what I love–denim!

What was the most memorable work experience you’ve had?

The most memorable work experience I had was helping a lady who walked into my store after losing 120 lbs. and finding her perfect jean. I never met anyone so appreciative in my life, it made me feel so proud that I could make someone feel so good about themselves.

What do you love about doing business?

What I love most is traveling the world to find the latest fashions for our customers while providing women and teens a great place to shop in town.

How are you celebrating “B” CHIC’s 10th Anniversary?

We want all of our loyal customers to come in and enjoy 20-percent off the entire store. We will be giving away free T-shirts, tote bags, hair ties and much more.

What Wilton business do you like and would recommend to GMW readers?

A few stores that I like to shop in and would recommend are Signature Style for monogramming, and Blue Star Bazaar for kids’ clothes.
