Thousands of kids and families will descend on Stamford’s Mill River Park for a weekend of fitness and activity during the fourth-annual Bankwell Stamford Spartan Kids event weekend September 15-16. Spartan is the world’s largest obstacle race and endurance brand. The weekend features Spartan’s signature kids’ obstacle races for boys and girls ages 4-13.

This is the first year Bankwell has sponsored the race, which Spartan uses to spread a message of health and wellness by bringing kids onto the race course to have fun while running, climbing and crawling.

“Spartan is all about ripping people off their couch and adopting healthy, active lifestyles,” says Bankwell Stamford Spartan Kids Race co-director, Daniel Goldstein. “It’s important to instill these qualities at a young age, so partnering with Bankwell, who shares similar health and wellness goals, is a natural fit and will help us reach more kids than ever before. We’re excited to work with them to help the community’s youth get healthy, get active and have fun.”

Built upon the popular Spartan Kids heat at the adult races, the Spartan Kids stand-alone race will feature half-mile, one-mile and two-mile courses with more than 15 obstacles, each crafted to instill youth-like adventure, courage, camaraderie, and a sense of accomplishment. There will also be a heat for the “Special Spartans,” athletes with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and those with cognitive learning or vocational delays. All finishers will receive a specially designed Bankwell Stamford Kids Spartan Race T-shirt and a finisher’s medal.

Obstacle Course Racing Media (OCRM) Network will be live from the venue, with hosts bringing complete coverage of the kids races from start to finish. Spectators can watch their niece, nephew, or grandchild compete in the action all day long online.

In addition to conquering challenges on the course, such as the spear throw and low crawl, the Bankwell Stamford Spartan Kids Race boasts a festival with activities that are fun for the entire family including games, healthy food options, art installations and more.

The Spartan Kids Race is now open for registration. For more information on the Bankwell Stamford Kids Race, including cost and registration, visit the race website.
