The Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC) is hosting an Emergency Medical Technician Course starting in March. Volunteers who sign up for this rewarding experience will learn lifesaving skills and be empowered to help fellow Wilton residents at a time when they need help the most.
The classes begin on March 7 and run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-10 p.m., plus one Saturday every month from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.. The last day of training is June 30. The class meets at Comstock Community Center (180 School Rd.) and costs $950, which includes books.
The EMT program covers techniques in first aid, CPR, AED, basic life support, patient assessments, extrication, communication, HAZMAT, terrorism awareness, and various other concepts to prepare a student to become an Emergency Medical Technician. The class meets all National Registry and Connecticut requirements and upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry exam. This course is taught by Jim Brubaker, a Norwalk Hospital paramedic and the EMS Clinical Educator of Norwalk Hospital.
