Wilton Police report that during the overnight hours of Saturday, Jan. 5 into Sunday, Jan. 6, someone broke into one of the United States Postal Service (USPS) collection boxes located outside the Wilton Post Office. Similar activity was also reported in the Town of Weston.
Police warn that mail theft from residential mail boxes and public USPS collection boxes is on the rise. The Department is advising residents who need to mail anything of value, including personal checks, to do so using a mail slot inside the Post Office building to avoid being a victim.
Police ask that anyone who may have recently used a USPS Collection Box located on the Wilton Post Office property during the time frame of the above incident to monitor accounts. Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the Wilton Police Department for investigation.
