UPDATE:  10:15 a.m.:  Eversource spokesman Mitch Gross reports the line was accidentally hit by a contractor, in the area of the Wolfpit and Horseshoe Rds. intersection, but that the issue was resolved quickly.

“They immediately shut off the gas. There were no injuries. It was a quick fix and included the replacement of a small piece of the line,” Gross emailed to GMW.com.

Work on the gas expansion project up Wolfpit Rd. resumed following the repair. Gross says the incident will not affect the project’s announced finish date of Aug. 15, noting, “We continue to make excellent progress.”

UPDATE:  9:15 a.m.:  Police advice the road is now open but is still considered a construction zone during the gas main project.

BREAKING NEWS, Aug. 4, 8:50 a.m.:  Wilton Police have sent out an alert that at 8:30 a.m. a gas main was struck during a construction project near the intersection of Wolfpit Rd. and Horseshoe Rd.. It has since been shut down and Police and Fire are on scene. Traffic is currently being alternated in each direction while the problem is rectified. Traffic may be delayed in this area, alternate routes are recommended.
