The following is an op-ed submitted by Wilton’s first selectman Bill Brennan.
The Village Center is being spruced up in many ways – new sidewalks and brick facings to improve pedestrian safety, courtesy of the State via a Main Street grant, as well as the repaving of River Rd. and the addition of brick pavers for safer pedestrian crosswalks – will soon demonstrably improve the streetscape of our lovely Town.
To make Wilton really “glow” during the holiday season, a fund drive has been organized to replace worn-out lamp post decorations and to increase the overall holiday atmosphere in the village.
New red ribbons and lighted garland will decorate the village lampposts and the Town Green gazebo. A new oversized red chair will be installed on the Town Green to encourage family pictures of children and to stimulate economic traffic in the center. Six thousand LED lights will decorate the Town Green’s fir tree and retailers and offices are being encouraged to place holiday wreaths on all doors.
To help cover the cost of these quality decorations, which will last many years, financial support from citizens, retailers and business organizations is being solicited.
Please make a contribution to the Town of Wilton Holiday Fund. All contributions are tax deductible. Send your check to the Town of Wilton, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897 Attn: Jackie Rochester. All gifts will be greatly appreciated and your contribution will help make our Town a festive environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to make our Town really “glow” during the holiday season! If everyone contributes, we can do it! Please help!
Thank you,
Bill Brennan
