Wilton’s first selectman Bill Brennan delivered a message from the town’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.
“Fortunately for Wilton, the storm’s more easterly course limited snowfall accumulations to 6-8 inches. However, wind gusts have created drifting snow conditions. National weather forecasts are indicating another 2-4 inches of snow for today in the southwestern CT area, with wind gusts of up to 35 mph.
“Wilton had an easy night with no power outages, no calls for service to our fire department or ambulance service, and police report only two minor road accidents occurred. Wilton’s shelter at Comstock Community Center was operating last night but did not receive any guests. The shelter has now been shut down.
“Department of Public Works crews plowed roads all through the night, but continuing snowfall has left the roads slippery and hazardous to drive. While the travel ban has been lifted in Fairfield County, town officials are urging citizens to remain at home to let town crews to continue to plow and sand the roads to improve driving conditions.
“Because of the windy conditions, power outages could still occur. CL&P has advised that they are keeping crews available to respond.
“Metro-North has advised that New Haven line will resume service starting up at 1 p.m. today.
“If you have fire hydrants in your area, please help our fire department by digging out these hydrants so that 3-feet of clearance exists around each hydrant. This activity now could be lifesaving in case of a later fire emergency in your area.
“Town Hall offices are closed today but will reopen tomorrow [Wednesday, Jan. 28] at normal business hours.
“In summary we lucked out with this dangerous storm. The storm nicked the ear of Wilton, but didn’t severely hurt us.”
