Wilton’s Nancy Capelle, a Basic Life Support instructor, Wilton EMT and EKG tech, is bringing her knowledge about heart health and CPR to her fellow Wilton residents–kids as well as adults. She’s doing so through her enterprise, Cardiac Companion, LLC.
For children in grades 6 and up, Capelle is offering a schedule of afterschool and vacation Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED Certification classes. The three-hour course will cover:
- Adult CPR/AED/Choking
- Child CPR/AED/Choking
- Infant CPR/Choking
- Brief intro to cardiac anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology and pathophysiology
- The difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest
Upon completion of the three hour course, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card that is valid for two years and a CPR face shield keychain.
Recent graduates of the course are pictured above–soon-to-be Middlebrook 7th graders Jack Mariani, James Curto and Doug Beach, who, after completing Capelle’s class, are now certified in American Heart Association Adult, Child and Infant CPR/AED. They join fellow 7th grade classmates, Max Downing, Calvin Nichols and Noah Sackowitz, who received their certification in July.
Cardiac Companion is offering classes on the following days and times:
Wednesday, Sept. 10 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 23 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 13 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
