The CT Department of Public Health reported three new COVID-19 cases in Wilton today, bringing the total number of cases to 876 since the start of the pandemic.

The low number of cases helped drive Wilton’s 14-day rolling average number of daily cases/100,000 people to 30.84–a 20-point drop in just one week.

One other indicator that’s trending in the right direction is the number of people in the Wilton Public School district who have contracted COVID-19 or been exposed to someone with the virus and need to quarantine.

Wednesday, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Smith published the school’s COVID-19 Daily Tracker that shows a sharp decline in the reported numbers since Feb. 2, just when the most recent surge was cresting.

In a little over a week, the district has gone from 21 confirmed cases and 182 people in quarantine after close contact, to four confirmed cases and 25 people quarantined after exposure. (Two of the four confirmed cases were newly reported on Wednesday.)

Wilton’s declining numbers are mirroring the trends both nationally and in the state. On Wednesday, Gov. Ned Lamont reported 888 new COVID-19 cases and a test positivity rate of 3.1%. The number of hospitalizations dropped below 800 to 770 patients (-56), and 28 deaths were reported.

Update on School Sisters of Notre Dame

Earlier this week GOOD Morning Wilton heard from Caelie Haines, the communications director for School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), for an update on the Sisters at Villa Notre Dame, the site of an outbreak of COVID-19 that began the last week of January.

Sadly, one SSND Sister succumbed to the virus during the outbreak. Haines declined to release her name “for privacy reasons.”

As of Monday, one other Sister remained in the hospital and four others are undergoing rehab at Meadow Ridge in Redding.

“All the others who have tested positive are still in quarantine on the grounds at Villa Notre Dame and are recovering well. The Sisters are tested regularly, and positive tests have decreased significantly. We are awaiting a time frame when there are no more positive results,” Haines said.
