Summer is a time when many kids are on their own more frequently–and often are responsible for other children. Perhaps they’re babysitting, watching over a sibling or someone else’s children. Maybe they’re with a group of friends around a pool, or outside on a sports field. Do they know what to do in every emergency situation?

Would your child know what to do if someone nearby needed CPR?

Wilton’s Nancy Capelle, who started Cardiac Companion, is offering a “CPR & AED Certification for Kids” course on Friday, July 11,  9 a.m.–noon.  Tailored for children aged 11-13 years old, the course will cover child CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) and choking, as well as infant CPR and choking. After a practical test and written test, and upon completion of this course, students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card that is valid for two years.

“I truly believe that children are fully capable of much more than we give them credit for and show a natural affinity for learning how to save a life. Giving them the knowledge and tools with which to do so does not take away their innocence, but rather empowers them to feel important and be a part of life, here and now,” Capelle said.

The cost for this class is $100 per student. This price includes the Course Completion Card. To register, or for more information, email Capelle at nancy@cardiaccompanion.com.
