Carrying Sugar Hollow Road over Norwalk RiverIn Wilton

Register: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTWilton161-147
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community with an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. A Q&A session will immediately follow the presentation.
The project involves replacement of Bridge No. 04986 carrying Sugar Hollow Rd. over Norwalk River which is currently closed to vehicular traffic due to its inability to carry legal loads. The proposed replacement structure will include a 48’-0” long single span bridge comprised of prestressed concrete deck units with a cast-in-place concrete topping slab supported by concrete abutments and micropile foundations socketed to bedrock. The roadway over the bridge will be widened to 24 feet and the bridge will marginally improve the hydraulic performance. The proposed project also involves improving the intersection of Sugar Hollow Rd. and Sunset Pass with Route 7, roadway reconstruction along 375 feet of Sugar Hollow Rd. and 100 feet of Sunset Pass, roadway drainage improvements and installation of bridge rail and approach rail systems meeting current safety standards.
Right-of-way impacts include one partial take, one drainage ROW easement, easements to slope for the support of the highway on three properties, temporary construction easements on two properties, rights to construct driveways, install sediment control system and remove pavement and install topsoil and seed.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2028 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3.6 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
The public can submit comments and questions during two-week public comment period following meeting. Direct comments and questions by July 9, 2025 to DOT-FLBP@ct.gov, 860.594.2020, or Andrew Shields, Project Engineer (Andrew.Shields@ct.gov, 860.594.2077).
