The Wilton Library is co-hosting a “Parenting Book Series” with the Wilton Youth Council, featuring Dr. Susan Bauerfeld, a licensed clinical psychologist, ADHD Coach, and mother of three. The first of three programs will discuss How Children Succeed:  Grit, Curiosity and the Hidden Power of Character by Paul Tough and will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m..

The series was established to help parents sift through the avalanche of advice that exists in the world of parenting books. In each session, Dr. Bauerfeld will present an overview of a parenting book chosen for its soundness and relevance to the community. Following the presentation, there will be time for questions and discussion. Reading the book is not required but is encouraged and will likely enhance the discussion.

The book being covered at Tuesday’s discussion is described as covering the following:  “Why do some children succeed while others fail? The story we usually tell about childhood and success is the one about intelligence:  Success comes to those who score highest on tests, from preschool admissions to SATs. But in How Children Succeed, Paul Tough argues that the qualities that matter more have to do with character, skills like perseverance, curiosity, optimism and self-control.”

Advance registration is recommended at the library website or by calling 203.762.3950, ext. 213. Admission is free. The United Way of Coastal Fairfield County is an additional sponsor.
