Lavielle: Tireless Advocate
Aug. 18, 2014
To the Editor:
Although it may be a little early in the campaign season, I wanted to be among the first to express my public support for the reelection of our state representative, Gail Lavielle.
I have been so impressed by Rep. Lavielle’s deep commitment to our community, and her seeming 24/7 approach to constituent service. Unlike the way most of us may think of our elected officials, Gail is very approachable, either in person, via email or even on the phone. Not only does she listen, but she gets results.
For example, she led the charge to have thru-service restored to the Danbury line’s early morning train. She was instrumental in securing funding for the walkway that is finally going to be constructed over the Norwalk River, providing a much-needed link between Wilton Center and the train station. And need I remind everyone of her valiant efforts to hold CL&P accountable in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy?
It seems that Rep. Lavielle is ahead of the curve on every issue of importance to our community. She is a tireless advocate for Wilton, and deserves to be reelected.
Sincerely,
Lisa Chubinsky
Lavielle: Understands Need for Change
Aug. 28, 2014
To the Editor:
Connecticut continues to rank at-or-near the bottom of state-by-state ranking metrics in every area, ranging from business tax climate (42nd), debt obligations (50th), retirement appeal (47th), achievement gap (50th), and not surprisingly, on a listing of “best-and-worst run states” (41st).
Clearly we need a dramatic change in the methodology we are currently utilizing in Hartford of borrowing money to delay a logical introspection of our state’s financial needs. The two-fold, self-perpetuating vicious cycle of inefficient financing, and short-term investment of those borrowed funds will only serve to bury our state deeper in a Detroit-like quagmire. This fiscal misconduct is not a sustainable atmosphere, and will lead to irreversible consequences for the state.
State Representative Gail Lavielle is one of the few legislators in Hartford to understand the need for demonstrative change. Gail has been the champion of logic and reason fighting for the type of spending reductions and tax reform that will entice businesses to want to operate in Connecticut, and for our residents both young and old to want to stay.
Rep. Lavielle brings a strong background in business and finance to Hartford – experience that seems to be in short supply. She has worked tirelessly for our communities and our state. She has more than earned our respect not only as a legislator, but as a role model to be looked up to. I believe we owe her the support she has earned to be reelected in November.
