Split Your Ballot to Protect Democracy and Strengthen Connecticut: Harris — Murphy — Himes — Evans — Healy

To the Editor:

This year, I’m splitting my ballot and encouraging others to do the same. The issues, and the stakes, at the national level are different than those in our state.

It’s important to counterbalance the very conservative Supreme Court with the White House and Congress. With the Senate close to 50-50 and the House nearly so, every Congressional contest matters. Chris Murphy and Jim Himes should be re-elected.

On the other hand, our state suffers from a “tri-fecta” – one party controls the governorship and both legislative chambers, a dangerous over-concentration of power. The legislature has two Democrats to every one Republican. There’s no real risk of a Republican majority in Connecticut and reducing the degree of imbalance would yield better policies.

The key issue in this election for Connecticut is the state’s attempt to override local control of planning and zoning. Under the guise of “affordable” housing, groups supported by real estate developers advocate increased population density that saddles residents with traffic problems, negative environmental effects and impacts to Wilton’s beauty and character. Kami Evans‘ opponent has supported these efforts. Evans and Kim Healy strongly support local control.

So I’m voting for Kamala, Kim and Kami. I encourage Wiltonians to not just automatically vote “down-ballot” for state senator and state representative but to learn about the issues and vote the candidates, not the row.

Elect Democratic Women to Protect Reproductive Healthcare

To the Editor:

Part of conservatives’ ‘Project 2025’ agenda is to reclassify contraceptive medications as abortion drugs and ban their use. The emergency contraceptive pill ‘Ella’ is a direct target. Used by millions of American women every year, this medicine offers peace of mind in uncertain times. Yet, U.S. Senate Republicans blocked a bill safeguarding women’s access to contraception. More than ever, we must elect Democratic women like Ceci Maher andSavet Constantine to our state legislature to create a firewall against these attacks and protect access to reproductive healthcare.

Contraception isn’t just a choice — it’s critical medicine for millions of women, from adolescence through menopause. Essential to quality of life, it’s often prescribed to treat painful, debilitating conditions like endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome. Women undergoing fertility treatments use contraceptives to manage their cycles. Those entering menopause use them to alleviate severe symptoms like hot flashes and irregular periods.

Contraceptives are vital for family planning and our economy. Every dollar spent on contraceptive services saves $6 in public spending by reducing unwanted pregnancies — a $10.5 billion annual savings. Birth control access enables a 20% higher college enrollment rate among women, boosting their earning potential significantly.

This is about protecting the future — ask women in your life how contraception has been essential to their physical and economic well-being. We cannot afford to let these rights be stripped away.

Kim Healy Is the Right Choice

To the Editor:

Since 2021, Kim Healy has represented us on the Wilton Board of Selectmen. In her position, Kim spends her time working to ensure responsible municipal spending, preserving town assets, and increasing public awareness and participation in town government — all qualities and initiatives we need in our state representative!

She is a devoted member of our community, a mother, a homeowner, and a person who cares deeply about Wilton and Connecticut. Kim will bring a level head, a strong character, and a solid financial background to the 42nd District Seat. She will undoubtedly champion efforts to correct the negative path that Connecticut is currently on, while protecting the very qualities that make Wilton and Connecticut such a desirable place to live.

I consider Kim a friend and as a result know she truly cares for this community. She is willing and eager to listen and support the correct ideas for the 42nd District, no matter your party affiliation. If you have a question for her, ask her! She is not one of those politicians who hides behind slander and misinformation. She looks forward to hearing about what is important to the people in the 42nd district.

I hope you will join me in voting for Kim Healy as the best choice for the 42nd District seat.

Support for Savet in 2024

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my full support of Savet Constantine for State Representative this November. In the time I’ve gotten to know Savet, I’ve seen first-hand her truly genuine commitment to the causes she believes in, to the people immediately surrounding her, and to the Wilton community more generally. Savet has lived in Wilton for over 20 years, and through raising a family, she is well attuned to the needs of our town. She has shown herself to be a highly engaged member of the community through her time as PTA president, and from her tireless contribution to the Democratic Town Committee. When I ran for Board of Finance last year, I saw first hand not only Savet’s passion for making sure that we were well prepared to discuss our party platform, but I also saw her organizational skills in making sure that deadlines were met, and that all our candidates represented themselves as strongly as possible. She delivered results, and she did it with her usual friendly, humble, and incredibly down to earth demeanor. I can’t say enough positive things about Savet, and believe that she would be a truly fabulous representative for Wilton.

Vote for Democrats, Vote for Our Future

To the Editor:

A world-class education isn’t merely aspirational. Ensuring every student’s academic and extracurricular success will elevate the future of our town and our country. We can’t afford to leave something so consequential to chance. This November, thankfully, we can avoid such a situation. That’s why I’m supporting Savet Constantine for State Representative, as well as Democrats up and down the ballot. I’ve known Savet since I was a little kid. A long-time Wilton resident, Savet has demonstrated the values, vision, and know-how to support and advocate for the future of every young person in Wilton. She did just that through her leadership on the PTAs of Middlebrook and Wilton High School. Across these endeavors, Savet has developed an unassailable track record of uniting people around common causes to effect positive, meaningful change. She recognizes that investing in schools is investing in our future. Crucially, her approach goes beyond resource allocation; she aims to create an environment wherein every child — no matter their background or gifts — can thrive. As a state representative, she will work tirelessly to improve Connecticut’s education system, just as she has on behalf of Wilton’s schools for so many years. This November, please join me in voting for Savet Constantine and Democrats across the ballot. For our children, as well as ourselves, let’s choose a future of which everyone can be proud.

Kim Healy Understands the Needs of Our Community

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my strong support for Kim Healy in her candidacy for State Representative in Connecticut. Kim is a dedicated and compassionate leader who truly understands the needs of our community. Her commitment to ensuring that parents and the Board of Education have a powerful voice in shaping the future of our children is inspiring. She knows how crucial it is for families to have a say in decisions that affect education.

Equally, Kim’s unwavering stance on protecting reproductive freedom and a woman’s right to choose demonstrates her belief in personal autonomy and equality for all. She is a fierce advocate for women and will continue to stand up for their rights.

One of Kim’s greatest strengths is her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She is amiable, approachable, and works tirelessly to bridge divides, regardless of race, gender, or political affiliation. Her emphasis on fiscal responsibility shows her deep care for Connecticut’s future, striving for communities to prosper and businesses to flourish.

Kim Healy is the leader we need — someone who listens, acts with integrity, and is committed to making Connecticut a better place for everyone.

Yours faithfully,

Ceci Maher — An Unwavering Commitment to our Community’s Wellbeing

To the Editor:

I’m writing to express my strong support for Ceci Maher’s re-election to the State Senate. Throughout her tenure, Ceci has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our community’s wellbeing, particularly in the crucial areas of mental health and education.

In the realm of mental health, Ceci has been a tireless advocate. She has championed legislation to increase funding for mental health services, improve access to treatment, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. These efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of countless families in our state.

Sen. Maher’s record on education is equally impressive. The Connecticut Education Association, a state teachers’ union, has just released its report card for the 2024 legislative session, and she achieved an A grade and an Honor Roll designation, confirming her outstanding commitment to the public policies and budget dollars that make Connecticut teachers and their public-school students successful all across Connecticut.

On Nov. 5, please join me in voting For Ceci Maher for State Senator in the 26th District.

Sincerely,

Dee Unterbach

Kim Healy is the Clear Choice for State Rep

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Kim Healy for State Representative for the 42nd District. I met Kim five years ago when I first ran for office. I was immediately impressed by her extensive volunteer work and dedication to the community. Kim is a highly intelligent and capable woman. She has done an excellent job on the Board of Selectmen and truly advocates for public awareness of and participation in the political process. There is no one I trust more to represent our voice as a community in Hartford.

In addition, Kim advocates for forward-thinking zoning reform, which we so desperately need. Currently, Hartford looks at zoning in a hyper-idealized manner and we are suffering because of it. We are in desperate need of a solution to the affordable housing problem that does not come at a cost to our town, particularly with respect to our planning and zoning processes. I trust that Kim will bring a collaborative spirit to Hartford and help effectuate more affordability in a practical manner.

Kim has served us well on the Board of Selectmen, and I am eager to watch her thrive as State Rep.

Why Elect Ceci Maher for State Senator?

To the Editor:

I’m writing to express my support for incumbent Ceci Maher for State Senator. As our representative, Ceci has demonstrated an unwavering community commitment through her voting record and advocacy.

Ceci’s efforts have secured over $10 million for our local communities, bringing vital resources to support our infrastructure, schools, and public services. Her accomplishments have resulted in tax relief for many residents.

In addition, Ceci has worked diligently to protect children and seniors. She has increased funding for gun violence prevention initiatives and expanded paid sick leave for employees, promoting safer and healthier communities.

Ceci stands firm in her support of women’s rights, ensuring that our district remains at the forefront of gender equality. Her focus on eldercare protections provides peace of mind to countless families caring for aging loved ones.
Recognizing the high cost of living in Fairfield County, Ceci is developing solutions to make our area more affordable. Her balanced approach to fiscal responsibility and community investment sets her apart as a leader who truly understands our needs.

Ceci’s record of achievement, coupled with her vision, makes her an excellent choice for State Senator. I urge you to join me in supporting Ceci Maher and ensuring continued progress for the 26th District.

  1. The most polite way to put this is that Kami Evans seems out of her depth. She doesn’t know the issues, and she has apparently made no effort to catch up. We don’t need more dabblers in politics. We need competent and accomplished legislators. Ceci Maher should be reelected.

    1. Depth? This is the CT State Legislature, not the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Preventing a super-majority that could override Lamont’s vetoes is the most important thing. Kami will do fine.
