Rte. 106/New Canaan Rd. Road Closure

Starting on Monday, Dec. 2, weather permitting, Rte. 106/New Canaan Rd. will be closed to through traffic between Old Boston Rd. and Old Kings Hwy. as Aquarion Water Company continues work installing utility pipe across Rte. 106 at the Old Boston Rd. intersection.
Access to the detour route will be maintained by allowing one lane of alternating traffic through the intersection at a time. Motorists are asked to follow the detour signs.
Hours for this road work will be from approximately 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday). For the safety of vehicles and construction workers, traffic control will be in place to assist the flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to follow all directions and consider using alternate routes.
All school bus stops will remain at their current locations. Emergency vehicles will be granted immediate access through this area. It is anticipated that work will take approximately three- to four weeks. Refer to Aquarion’s online information for project updates.
The State of Connecticut will be overseeing the project. Anyone with immediate questions during work should reach out to the State inspector.
Wilton Fire Ban Lifted
The CT Department of Environment and Energy Protection has reported a moderate to low fire danger since late last week. As such, the Wilton Fire Department and Fire Marshal have lifted the burn ban for Wilton. Information on open burning in Wilton may be found on the Fire Department website. Residents are asked to continue to use commonsense measures to keep Wilton fire safe.
The move comes as recent precipitation has significantly improved conditions and lowered the forest fire danger level statewide to ‘low-to-moderate’ over the past few days.
While the recent rainfall marks a turning point, state officials said it is important to remember that Connecticut remains in the fall fire season.
According to an announcement Tuesday from Gov. Ned Lamont, Connecticut has faced “one of the most challenging wildfire seasons in recent history, with 227 fires reported, managed, and monitored. The driest period in recorded history and high winds created a perfect storm for wildfire activity.”

Wilton Historical Society’s Betts Store Features Unique and Delightful Holiday Gifts and Offers on “Musem Store Sunday”
On Sunday, Dec. 1, the Betts Museum Store at the Wilton Historical Society invites shoppers to participate in Museum Store Sunday, an annual holiday shopping day supporting cultural institutions and their stores. This year, more than 2,100 museum stores representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia, 25 countries and five continents will celebrate Museum Store Sunday and offer unique gifts for the holiday season — with all purchases supporting its parent institution and the artisans and craftspeople who create many of the gifts found in museum stores.
The day following Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 29, will be the opening day of the Wilton Historical Society’s Great Trains Holiday Show. This is the perfect opportunity to spend time with friends and family visiting this beautiful and magical antique train show, while also supporting Wilton’s local historical society by shopping in the Betts Museum Store. On Museum Store Sunday, local handmade jewelry company, Anne Koplik Designs, will be at the Betts Museum Store to offer even more holiday sparkle and goodies. Light treats and warm drinks will also be available to enjoy while shopping.
The Wilton Historical Society’s Museum Store, like the original 18th-century Betts Store, features locally-made and one-of-a-kind items, many hand-crafted. Here shoppers will discover beautiful gifts for all occasions, from jewelry, scarves, and letterpress note cards to nifty toys, games and crafts for kids. There is an excellent selection of home accessories and hostess gifts…unique candles, artwork, mugs, vases, cups and redware plates. The Betts Store is committed to supporting local craftsmen and businesses; some items are made in Wilton, some in Connecticut, and all are made in the U.S.A.
