Spend time outdoors with your family and let your children explore the trucks they see on the road. Wilton’s 4th Annual Touch-A-Truck Community Event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Middlebrook Middle School, 131 School Rd.. The event takes place rain or shine.
This community-wide event, hosted by the Children’s Day School of Wilton will feature pony rides, “Roaming Railroad,” a bouncy house, face painting, concessions, musical entertainment by Music Together and the Darst Jones Bloom Band, and over twenty trucks!
Visitors will be able to sit on, climb on and explore many types of trucks and other types of vehicles. Admission is $30 per family. Advance tickets may be purchased at a discounted rate of $25 at Peachwave Frozen Yogurt on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9.
“We are excited to welcome back many trucks from last year and we have a few new surprises. Children of all ages will be lining up at the Monster Mobile Arcade, an interactive game truck. The Beardsley Zoo will also be joining the festivities with their Zoomobile, introducing children to reptiles and lizards,” said Lisa Mannix, 2014 Wilton Touch a Truck Co-chair.
This year, Peachwave Frozen Yogurt is hosting a truck coloring contest for children ages 2-6. Blank sheets can be picked up at the Wilton Peachwave, at 142 Old Ridgefield Rd.. Submissions should be dropped off by Sept. 5 in time for judging. The most creatively colored truck will be awarded a $150 gift certificate to Peachwave and admission for the entire family to the Touch-a-Truck event.
Many sponsors are responsible for the growth of Touch-a-Truck in Wilton this year. Premier sponsors include Aggreko, ASML, Cannondale Generators, Connecticut Lawn and Landscape, Dagny’s Real Estate, News 12 Connecticut, and The Village Market. [Editor’s note: GOOD Morning Wilton is also a sponsor.]
The event will also feature a “Silent Hour” from 11 a.m.-12 noon. “The Silent Hour is a unique aspect of this Touch a Truck that takes into account different needs of children. Boys and girls alike love seeing the trucks. However, for some young ones, the loud honking of vehicles is just too much. Others can’t get enough opportunities to lay on the horns!” explained Pam Ely, director of the Children’s Day School of Wilton.
