GOOD to Prepare for the Primary: Absentee Ballots Available Beginning Tuesday, July 21

Beginning Tuesday, July 21, registered Wilton Republicans and Democrats can obtain absentee ballots Connecticut primaries on Aug. 11.

Connecticut’s new “no-excuse” absentee voting law, which took effect this year, allows any eligible voter to vote by absentee ballot.

Eligible primary voters have options for obtaining an absentee ballot.

Now: Submit an absentee ballot application to the Town Clerk, either online through CT’s Online Ballot Application Portal, printing an application from the CT Secretary of State’s website, or picking one up at the Wilton Town Clerk’s office (Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Rd.). Completed applications can be returned to the Town Clerk in person, by mail or via the secure ballot drop box at Town Hall’s back door (across from Police Headquarters).

Tuesday, July 21: Town Clerk Lori Kaback will begin mailing absentee ballots to voters whose applications have been approved. Voters visiting the Town Clerk’s office may complete an application, receive a ballot, vote and return it all in one visit. 

Monday, Aug. 10: Last day to obtain an absentee ballot

Tuesday, Aug. 11, 8 p.m.: Deadline for absentee ballots to be received by the Town Clerk, either by mail, in person at the office, or in the secure ballot box. Absentee ballots cannot be submitted at polling locations or counted if they arrive after 8 p.m., even postmarked earlier.

Connecticut Democrats will choose their nominee for governor, while Republicans will select a challenger to U.S. Rep. Jim Himes. Only registered members of each party may vote in their respective party’s primary. Unaffiliated voters are not eligible to vote in CT primaries.

GOOD To Get a Seat: Play Musical Chairs on the Town Green Friday

Wilton Youth Council and Wilton Library are hosting Wilton’s first Musical Chairs event on the Town Green on Friday, July 24, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Players ages 11 and up can join in for a neighborhood game of musical chairs.

Circles of up to 30 players will compete simultaneously on the lawn with a DJ starting and stopping the music. Winners of each circle advance to the final round where all the circle champions compete against each other until one player remains sitting. The last person standing takes home a grand prize.

Check-in begins at 4:30 p.m. There will be youth rounds (ages 11-17) and adult rounds (18+). The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. Organizers said that there will be no food vendors at the event so they suggest participants eat before or support Wilton restaurants after the game.

GOOD To Welcome: Dan DeBarba Returns to Norwalk Hospital as New President

A new president has been named at Northwell Health’s Norwalk Hospital. Dan DeBarba, Norwalk Hospital’s president from 2010-2014, and most recently chief financial officer (CFO) of Northwell’s Connecticut and Hudson Valley region, has returned to lead the hospital as president once again.

“I am both delighted and honored to return to Norwalk Hospital. Though much has changed since 2014, I look forward to being reacquainted with the hospital’s amazing staff and physicians and advancing its commitment to our community and clinical integration with Northwell Health,” DeBarba said.

In 2014, after playing a pivotal role in the Norwalk Hospital affiliation with Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN), DeBarba was appointed president of Danbury Hospital and executive vice president and chief operating officer of WCHN. He pursued other leadership opportunities outside the health system before returning to Nuvance Health (formerly WCHN) in 2022 as CFO.
