GOOD Deutschunterricht an der Wilton High School

Wilton High School students studying German have enjoyed several exciting activities this year. In October, students visited New York City and took part in the Goethe-Institut Career Day, which highlighted the many job opportunities that are available through German companies — including over 100 German companies in Connecticut — and also exposed them to about study abroad opportunities.
Students also enjoyed a historical bus tour of New York City highlighting key neighborhoods from the lower East Side to Yorkville (once known as “German Broadway”) and German landmarks such as the German Embassy, United Nations and Brooklyn Bridge. Lunch was eaten at the Heidelberg Restaurant, one of the oldest family-run German restaurants in the United States dating back over 100 years. Students enjoyed tasting the variety of German cuisines and then stopping by at the Schaller and Weber delicatessen to purchase some sweet treats afterward. Students also made connections with German students from Staples High School in neighboring Westport.
December provided the students an opportunity to share some German fun with the wider school community. German classes held the annual Gingerbread house display and competition in the Learning Library Commons where all WHS students had a chance to vote for the best Gingerbread creation. The students also taught a lesson to the tots in the on-campus preschool about the Gingerbread Man.
That same month, the German Honor Society hosted cultural events, including Christmas traditions “Krampus auf dem Campus” and “Secret Schneeflocke.” The honor society students also took the National German Exam through the American Association of Teachers of German, and there were eight gold, silver, bronze and achievement winners — Marta Grzywacz, David Kuszyk, Mason Sherman, Mark Whitman, Brynn Grosso, Yihao Qian, August Furman and Keira Rafferty.
In February, the students enjoyed a tasty treat to end the unit on Switzerland with a class Fondue and Raclette celebration.
GOOD Sports: Wilton YMCA Gymnasts Shine at State Championships

Wilton YMCA gymnasts delivered a standout performance at the 2026 Connecticut YMCA State Gymnastics Championships, held March 28-29 at the Riverbrook YMCA, earning 26 individual championship titles and 94 event titles across multiple levels.
Wilton teams placed strongly across the board, with the Level 7 team taking first place, XCEL Gold finishing second, and several other teams placing third.
The meet also marked a milestone for four graduating seniors — Kyra Doran, Alyssa Duarte, Alyssa Mariani and Lilli Todd — all of whom will continue their gymnastics careers at the collegiate level.
Next up: regional competition in Rhode Island in May, followed by nationals in North Carolina this summer.
