GOOD to Drive the Message Home: Video and Drive Wise Clubs Promote Safe Driving Awareness with Simulator and Upcoming 5K

The Video Club and Drive Wise Club are once again engaging the community around safe driving. Their motivation? The fact that more than 3,200 people of all ages die each year in crashes involving distracted driving (in 2024, per the NTSB), making education and prevention especially important.
First the clubs teamed up with the Wilton Police Department to host their annual safe-driving simulator event, educating more than 500 students about the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of making safe decisions behind the wheel.
Gavin Levenherz, Ryan Vermeulen and Hans Greene organized the event again this year, which gave students the opportunity to learn more about the possible deadly risks of distracted driving.
The clubs are extending their mission beyond the school community, hosting their fifth annual Halloween-themed Drive Wise 5K on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. in Merwin Meadows to promote safe driving. For the second year, the clubs are partnering with the WHS cheer team to bring even more students together to spread awareness. For more information and to register visit the race website.
GOOD To Be A Human Book: Wilton Library Seeks Volunteer “Books” for Upcoming Human Library

Wilton Library will once again host The Human Library and officials there are looking for volunteer “Books.”
The Human Library is a community event featuring a library of people, or “human books,” and their experiences with prejudice, bias or discrimination based on aspects of their person, heritage or life experiences. Readers are members of the community who want to foster understanding and are encouraged to ask questions. At the Human Library, the books are on loan to readers for a personal and honest one-on-one conversation in a safe space where the books have an opportunity to share their experiences. Officials said this format is designed to build a positive framework for dialogue that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through conversations.
Wilton Library is looking for people to volunteer as human books for its four-hour Human Library event on Mar. 20, 2027. Anyone who feels they fit the criteria to be a book and is comfortable speaking with others about the challenges they have faced is asked to fill out an online application by Nov. 16. For more information, visit the Wilton Library website or email Melissa Baker. The Human Library event at Wilton Library is sponsored by ASML.
GOOD To Grapple With: Wilton Youth Wrestling Gears Up For Winter Season

The Wilton Youth Wrestling Club is gearing up for their winter season. Registration is now open and the team will be hosting a free “open mat” session on Tuesday, Nov. 17 with an introduction to the sport, a mini-practice session, a chance to meet with coaches and a Q&A session for the parents.
Practices begin Monday, Nov. 30 and are held at Cider Mill School. The program is open to boys and girls from K – 8th grades, and the team will be split into two squads — a Junior Squad (K-4th grades) practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Warrior Squad (5th-8th grades) practicing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Practices combine technique, drills, wrestling games, and live wrestling. The only special equipment required is wrestling shoes and headgear.
The team will participate in scrimmages and dual meets against other area towns and in tournaments on the weekends. The club is sanctioned by USA Wrestling, and all coaches are certified by USA Wrestling’s National Coaches Education Program.
In addition to teaching the techniques of amateur wrestling, the team is dedicated to instilling values beyond the wrestling mat, with core values taught and reinforced at practices and competitions, including respect, discipline, gratitude, effort, inclusivity and fun.
