GOOD To Celebrate: WHS Athletics to Induct Eight New Hall of Fame Members

Wilton High School Athletics will celebrate its rich athletic history by inducting eight new members into the Wilton Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. This year’s class includes Spencer Brown, KJ Kindler, Allison Knoff, Dan Shevchik, Kevin Wall, Kristin Wood, Coach Jack Majesky and the 1976 Wilton High School Field Hockey Team. Together, they represent generations of Warrior excellence.

“The evening is more than an awards ceremony, it is an opportunity for former teammates, coaches, families, alumni, current student-athletes and community members to come together and celebrate the lasting impact these individuals and this team have had on Wilton Athletics,” WHS Athletic Director Bobby Rushton said.

WHS relaunched the Hall of Fame tradition in 2025 after over a decade on hiatus. A permanent “Warrior Wall of Distinction” was installed in the Nick Zeoli Field House showcasing Hall of Fame classes, athlete biographies, photographs and other pieces of Wilton’s athletic history.

The 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony tickets include dinner and can be purchased through the Wilton High School Athletics Hall of Fame website.

GOOD To Volunteer: Don’t Miss Wilton’s Most Gratifying Community Volunteer Experience — WI-Act’s Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Event

Wi-Act’s Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event, taking place at the WEPCO complex (36 New Canaan Rd.), on Saturday, Oct. 17, is one of the most important and inspiring volunteer events in which the Wilton community comes together each year to package highly nutritious meals for food-challenged children wherever in the world the need is greatest at the time of the event.

Participating in the one-day event is a life-changing experience and something that families can do together. It’s moving, emotional, fun and fulfilling, and it’s thrilling for all ages from 7 years old to senior citizens to experience the joy of doing this important work together.

Managed by Wi-Act, the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee, the event is the largest single-day Rise Against Hunger volunteer event in New England. Last year more than 700 volunteers packaged 150,000 meals. This year Wi-Act expects to package its 2 millionth meal since starting the event a dozen years ago.

Two essentials make this lifesaving work possible: funds to purchase meal ingredients and volunteers to package them. Volunteer spots are still open for the two-hour shifts starting at 9 a.m. on Oct. 17. The sign-up is online.

GOOD To be Safe: Stay at Home in Wilton Launches Home Safety Program for Seniors

Stay at Home in Wilton has launched its Home Safety Program to help members make essential safety improvements so they can continue living securely and confidently in their own homes.

The initiative has already supported projects in members’ homes ranging from installing new walkways and upgrading electrical systems, to providing safety equipment, including smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, fire blankets and grab bars. Free first-aid kits were also distributed at Stay at Home in Wilton’s recent barbecue.

Throughout the fall, Stay at Home in Wilton will continue making improvements in members’ homes and delivering needed safety supplies. Wilton Hardware has supported the program by providing these important safety items.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., Stay at Home in Wilton will partner with Wilton Library to highlight a critical safety issue: scams targeting older adults. Scammers frequently prey on seniors, and new schemes are reported every day. Wilton Police will explain common warning signs, identify current types of fraud and share practical steps seniors can take to protect their personal information, finances and identities.

GOOD To Weigh In: CTDOT Plans New Sidewalks Along Rtes. 7 and 33

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for new sidewalks in Wilton along Rte. 7 from Kent Rd. to Rte. 33 and Rte. 33 from Dudley Rd. to 167 Danbury Rd., with improvements to lighting, bus stop amenities, crosswalks and accessible pedestrian signals.

Design work is expected to finish in spring 2028, with construction anticipated in fall 2028, pending project approval, funding and required permits. Residents can submit questions or comments to project manager Devin Racicot at 860.594.2735 or via email, referencing State Project No. 0161-0148.
