The following was compiled from a press release submitted by Kim Healy.
Wilton Selectwoman Kim Healy has been appointed by State House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora to serve on CT’s Reading Leadership Implementation Council.
The Council, made up of 12 bipartisan members appointed by the governor or legislative leaders, is charged with providing guidance to The Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success. The Council supports the Center’s aims to ensure CT districts, teachers, and families are equipped with structured support to help all students read on grade level by third grade.
Healy called being appointed to the council “an honor” and said she looks forward to helping children become strong readers and lifelong learners.
“Reading is one the most important tools that children must acquire at an early age to become strong and developed individuals. The Council’s commitment to families and providing resources for them is a huge draw for me. As a parent, I believe that reading is the cornerstone of an effective education for every child in Connecticut,” Healy said. “The creation of this Council could not have come at a more critical time. The learning loss due to the pandemic is significant here in Connecticut.”
Additionally, the Reading Leadership Implementation Council will publish annual goals for the Center, meet at least once every two months and consult with representatives from public, private, and philanthropic organizations.
A 14-year resident of Wilton, Healy has volunteered for several community organizations, including Minks to Sinks (currently co-chair), the Wilton Library (former treasurer, chair of the Finance Committee and member of Executive Committee), the Wilton Youth Council (former treasurer) and WYC Project 2022 (current treasurer). She also volunteers as a tax preparer for AARP, providing necessary assistance to people with low incomes and seniors. She previously served on Wilton’s Conservation Commission before being elected to Wilton’s Board of Selectmen last November.
Kim and her husband are the parents of four children, all of whom attended Wilton Public Schools (their youngest two are currently enrolled in parochial school). Professionally, she was an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers and is a Certified Public Accountant.
