The Wilton 5th grade girls basketball team, sponsored by Little Pub Wilton, left their hearts on the gym floor Sunday, March 6, losing a heartbreaker FCBL championship game to Trumbull, 8-9.

The first half they were down 6-0. The team’s defense—Aly Rapport, Ava Fasano, Isabel DiNanno, Kelly Holmgren and Anna Joy—kept them in the game and gave them a shot for a come back in the third quarter. Molly Snow got Wilton going with a jump shot to make it 2-6, followed by Heather Plowright who brought it to 4-6. Wilton’s defense kept forcing turnovers as they cut the lead to 5-6 with Lucy Corry’s foul shot. A shot by Trumbull made it 7-5, until Mary Scally tied it 7-7. Trumbull hit a couple of free throws but not before Emerson Patella hit her foul shot to make the final score 8-9. The loss couldn’t dim a fantastic season for these girls!

A particular bright spot:  5th grader Kelly Holmgren won the one-on-one contest.
