On Thursday morning, July 24, Wilton Police responded to an individual in crisis, an event that was seen by members of the public and reported on social media. Deputy Chief Rob Cipolla told GOOD Morning Wilton that the situation has been resolved keeping both the individual and the public safe.

“This was an adult male undergoing a crisis. Our officers attempted to have dialogue with him on several occasions, but he would ignore their attempts and avoid them. Our officers patiently followed him for over two hours to ensure his safety and the safety of the public,” Cipolla told GMW.

Reports on Facebook included multiple sightings by residents who noted the individual acting unusually and several officers driving slowly alongside.

Cipolla explained how the situation was handled.

“We also engaged a mobile crisis response team from the DuBois Center who responded to the scene. Ultimately we are able to detain him safely without incident and he was transported to the hospital,” he said.

Cipolla added praise for his officers.

“The officers did an outstanding job showing patience and resolving this incident while keeping the public safe, the individual in crisis safe, and of course themselves safe. We’re very grateful for the assistance from our partners at the DuBois Center,” he wrote.
