GOOD Morning Wilton has GOOD news of two local teens who’ve accomplished great things:
Private Joseph S. Cullinan, 18, a Wilton High School graduate from the class of 2014 (pictured above, left), graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC on Nov. 21. Private Cullinan successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 90 recruits in Training Platoon 2089. Among the six male recruit training platoons, Platoon 2089 earned the distinction of Honor Platoon for having the highest composite scores in physical fitness, combat fitness, academics, marksmanship and drill. While in recruit training, Pvt. Cullinan achieved the highest marksmanship qualification, Rifle Expert. Following ten days home on leave he will report to Camp LeJeune for two months at Infantry Training Battalion.
Liam Smith, 15, a junior at Wilton High School (pictured far right, above), qualified last week to fence at the Junior Olympics that will be held in Richmond, VA in February 2015. Smith qualified to compete in two events at Junior Olympics: the Cadet (under 17) and Junior (under 20) Men’s Foil events. At the CT Division Qualifiers, held last week in Danbury, Smith won gold in the Cadet event competing among 21 fencers. Earlier in the day, he had placed fifth among 26 in the Junior event, which qualified him to compete in the JO under-20 tournament.
