With current weather models undecided about whether Hurricane Arthur will completely spoil July 4th celebrations along the east coast, and neighboring towns like Westport and Norwalk have officially postponed their fireworks, Wilton’s Parks and Recreation Department is still keeping an eye on what forecasters are saying. They’re sticking with tomorrow’s schedule so far, and they’ve come up with a plan to let residents know what to do in case bad weather puts a damper on the Independence Day fun planned for Wilton on Friday, July 4.
“We plan to wait until the day-of the event, and the decision about the celebration will be made by noon,” explained Steve Pierce, head of the Parks & Rec department. “That’s when the fireworks arrive, and then we’re locked in.”
Residents can call the department hotline at 203.454.5188 to find out. Pierce added that they’ll post notices on the Parks & Rec Facebook page and try to email anyone signed up for the department’s email blasts. “We’ll make sure people know, but hopefully we won’t have to cancel it. It’s always such a fun day,” he said.
