July 4th in Wilton is a great reason to help out other people, and GOOD Morning Wilton has not just one, but two GOOD causes for you to consider assisting.
Diaper Drive
Back in November, we profiled two Wilton friends who were spearheading a diaper collection effort. Growing out of their friendship and mutual dedication to giving back to the community, Genia Meinhold and Jane Alexander started this grassroots effort when they learned that families who receive aid through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can’t use that to pay for diapers or wipes.
Back then, Wilton helped the effort they had kicked off. But Jane just emailed GOOD Morning Wilton to let us know that the Community Action Center of Danbury, one of the places they brought diapers to, are down to only two boxes. “I have not had time to do another big collection, but I know that Person to Person in Norwalk also needs diapers. I am hoping people can either drop diapers off at Temple B’nai Chaim in Georgetown (82 Portland Ave.), or they can even bring them to my house, 61 Ryders Ln. in Wilton, and I will deliver to the organizations.”
All sizes are needed. Contact Jane at 203.943.5819 with any questions.
Food Drive
On Friday, July 4, the Wilton Democratic Town Committee (Wilton DTC) is staging a Food Drive to benefit the Person-to-Person (P2P) Emergency Food Pantry in Norwalk. They will be collecting donations at the Wilton DTC booth on School Rd. (across from the tennis courts) starting at 5:30 p.m..
Donations will also be accepted at the Frivolity Bowl, the softball game between the Wilton DTC and the Wilton Republican Town Committee at 12 noon on the Girls’ Softball Field at WHS.
There are so many people in our community who are never sure where their next meal is coming from – in 2013, P2P provided food for nearly 550,000 meals – and to help keep the pantry well-stocked, P2P relies on food donations from people like you.
So while you’re at the market picking up food for your weekend picnics and barbecues, add a little something extra to your cart and then bring it along with you to drop-off before the Wilton fireworks.
Any non-perishable items are welcome, but P2P has a particular need for canned fruit, cereal, cookies, juice, peanut butter and jelly.

Thank you to everyone who donated diapers or wipes for this cause. The agencies were thrilled to receive them.
